This website aims to support teachers to develop the QCA Schemes of Work for Science in order to reflect diversity.

It contains resources for the teacher to download and
use with their children. It includes:

  • Photo packs
  • Games and quizzes
  • Lesson ideas
  • Recommended Resources
  • Links to other sites
  • Information about Minority Ethnic Scientists
  • Translations of key words in Urdu and Somali
  • Guidance to planning
The diversity of children and their families in our schools provide us with a depth of knowledge, experiences and skills that can be drawn upon by all.

The context of science provides a valuable opportunity to use childrens own experiences of the world around them to enrich the curriculum and maximise their learning.

For example - a Somali child may have first hand knowledge of plants and animals in an environment which could be highly relevent to a unit of work on habitat.

Its essential that schools find out about the children whom arrive into their school and build on their knowledge, skills and experiences.
